Do not proceed further if you haven't read through to chapter 47 of the Attack on Titan manga.
IC Information:
Name: Originally Annie Leonhart (Or Leonheart. Or Leonhardt. This seems to be the official English spelling though so let's go with that), her reincarnation is Annabel Lyons. She'll be going by Ellie on the network, because secrets.
Canon: Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin
Age: Preincarnated she's 16. ...Probably. Maybe. It seems that titan shifters - Ymir being the major example - can live for years in their titan forms without aging in their human ones. Reincarnated she's 25.
Preincarnation Species: Titan shifter.
Preincarnation Appearance: Her nose is a work of art. You can't tell from the image, but she's only five feet tall. SO TINY AND WEE except when she turns into a titan and looks more like this. What a hottie!
Any differences: Very little (HAHA IT'S A JOKE ABOUT HER BEING SHORT, I AM SO FUNNY). She's older than she is in canon, and isn't wearing the military bondage gear. That's about it.
Preincarnated History:
WALLS FALL EVERYONE DIES. Have a wiki link!
To get an idea of the setting for Attack on Titan:
1) Imagine Germany - possibly a Germany from sometime in the past. Possibly not even Germany at all, though it's pretty heavily implied. Who knows! Just imagine Germany.
2) Make it more anime. Make it the anime-est Germany there ever was.
3) Add an apocalypse in the form of terrifying malformed giants that eat humans (known as titans).
4) Fast forward to one hundred years later, by which time the remains of humanity are living in a city protected from the titans by three rings of fifty-metre-high walls.
You're probably starting to understand that Post-Apocalyptic Anime Germany is a pretty awful place.
Much of Annie's early background is completely unknown. It seems she was raised by her father and was put through rigorous training while being taught to hate the entire world, though the exact circumstances and details of this are unknown at this point. She comes from the same as-yet-unnamed village as her comrades Reiner and Bertholdt, and apparently left there when she was eleven or so. On that day Wall Maria - the outermost wall of the human settlement - was attacked by an unusually large titan known as the Colossal Titan. The gate in the wall was destroyed, the wall was breached, and a huge number of titans immediately swarmed into the city and began snacking on the residents. Annie escaped the carnage and joined the mass evacuation to the second wall, Wall Rose.
Annie wasn't just any evacuee, though, seeing as she helped cause the breach in the first place. She, Reiner and Bertholdt are all titan shifters - people who possess both human and titan forms. While Annie's titan form wasn't directly involved in the assault like Reiner (the Armoured Titan) and Bertholdt (the Colossal Titan) were, it is heavily implied that she used her abilities as the Female-Type Titan to summon the horde of regular titans who joined the attack.
What a dick, am I right? Gosh.
Fast-forward two years, and at the age of thirteen Annie joins the military. She remains rather distant towards the other trainees, rarely getting involved and slacking off from any duties that don't increase her ranking in the group. She doesn't seem overly close to her peers at all, even getting into a fight with Mikasa at one point, though she's shown interacting favourably with both Eren and Armin. She's also shown with Reiner and Bertholdt every so often, but later in canon Eren, Mikasa and Armin are asked about Annie's habits. None of them recall Annie being close to Reiner or Bertholdt, so it's safe to say their interactions were kept very low-key.
As far as the training itself goes, she excels in several disciplines (enough to be ranked 4th in the group upon graduation), most notably in hand-to-hand combat. When Reiner and Eren get her to spar with them instead of slacking off, she floors them with apparent ease - then states that since fist fighting doesn't give the trainees credit towards their final rank, it's a waste of time. This is consistent with her goal post-graduation, as she says she wants to join the military police for an easy life instead of signing up to go out and kill titans. Only the top ten candidates are permitted to join the police (Annie is the one to first point out to Eren how messed up it is that the people best suited for killing titans are the ones who don't have to). It's safe to say that she really wanted to join the police because that would give her and the other two titan shifters access to the innermost wall, Wall Sina.
Just after the trainees' graduation two years later, the Colossal Titan returns and this time breaks open one of the gates into Wall Rose, causing a breach leading into the Trost district. The first attempt to repel the ensuing influx of titans goes badly - many trainees die, and even Actual Shounen Hero (tm) Eren is eaten. Annie doesn't play a big part in retaking Trost, but she does get to watch Eren plug the breach by transforming into a titan and shoving a huge boulder into the hole. As you do. It's implied that she might have killed fellow trainee Marco Bodt before the end of the battle, though this hasn't been completely confirmed. Whether this is true or not, Marco's death is somewhat suspicious and Annie later ends up in posession of his equipment.
Post-Trost, Annie joins the military police as planned. She continues being a loner and doing the bare minimum in her new position, with some of her fellow recruits claiming that she slacks off too much. In reality, she's just prioritising her campaign of sabotage against humanity over her policing duties. She sneaks off and kills the two titans that were captured alive and held by the Recon Corps for experiments after the battle of Trost, crippling any efforts for the humans to learn more about how titans work. This makes Zoƫ Hange cry, and that's terrible. Boo you, Annie.
She doesn't stop there. By this point, her main objective is to capture Eren and take him back to her village with Reiner and Bertholdt. On Eren's first excursion outside the walls, Annie takes the opportunity to sneak out, transform into the Female-Type Titan and start wrecking everybody's shit. Things don't go to plan for her. Acting on some misinformation about where in the formation Eren is located, Annie stomps her way through the troops and finds Armin instead. Oops. She spares him and stalks off to try and find Eren, but Armin, Reiner and Jean pursue her. She keeps them at bay with ease, snatching Reiner from the air when he comes to "attack" her - in reality to allow him the opportunity to write Eren's true location on her palm with his blade while he "struggles". Annie then runs off in pursuit of Eren.
IT'S A TRAP. Upon entering the Forest of Giant Trees, Annie is skewered and completely immobilised by hundreds of harpoons fired by the recon corps. When she realises there is no escape and she's going to get cut right out of her titan body, she lets out a scream that summons a great number of titans to her aid. Instead of attacking the humans, as one might expect, the group of titans eat Annie's titan form instead. Annie escapes from the giant corpse unnoticed and waits for the corps to begin the retreat before transforming and pursuing Eren once again. She slaughters the rest of his squad, fights him in titan form and bites him out of his titan's corpse so she can then run off with him.
Luckily for Eren, this prompts Mikasa and Lance Corporal/Captain/What The Fuck Is This Guy's Rank (We Just Don't Know) Levi to pounce on Annie and cut Eren right out of her mouth. Levi is wounded and the situation is dangerous, so they make their escape while Annie is forced to allow herself to recover.
Back within the walls and in human form once more, Annie is later approached by Armin. He asks her to help him smuggle Eren out of the city under the noses of the police. Presumably realising that the game is up, as she has made too many mistakes and Armin is a perceptive motherfucker, Annie agrees to help. She is confronted about her actions and ambushed by the military. Unwilling to be captured, she transforms once more and makes a break for it, eventually reaching the walls and starting to climb over them to safety. To stop her, Eren flings Mikasa into the air after Annie. She cuts off the Female-Type's fingers, cutting her climb short, and tells her to "fall."
She does. Then in a last-ditch attempt to prevent herself being harmed or interrogated, Annie somehow encases herself in a tremendously hard crystal. This is cut out of her titan form and taken into custody until the human forces can figure out how to deal with it.
Reincarnated History:
(I have permission to make Annabel an employee of Thunder Corp: here.)
Annabel had a fairly standard childhood. She was raised by her divorcee father, but never felt like she was missing anything or somehow less loved by only having one parent around. She enjoyed sports - track and gymnastics becoming favourites in high school, as her small frame proved to be an asset - and while she was never the most sociable child she was never friendless or outcast. By the time she was eighteen, she basically had her life all planned out. She was going to go to college, finish studying and then become a gym teacher.
Things didn't work out that way. Her father got sick, and Annabel dropped everything to prioritise caring for him and helping him get well again. Unfortunately, his condition proved terminal and after four years of illness he died. Annie was left alone, up to her eyeballs in debt and at a complete loss.
Since then, she's had to give up on any plans she had before so she can concentrate on making enough money to actually live. She's worked multiple jobs, mostly as a security guard. Her running ability combined with some free self-defence classes that she took make her pretty good at her job, though she's prone to slacking off. Her life is shit, her job is shit. Why bother putting in the effort to make it better when the most she can hope for is more shit?
Within the last few months, she's been employed by Thunder Corp. As far as she's concerned, they're no different from any other employers she's ever had - they pay a little better, but that's about it. If they are taking part in anything shady - haha, and why would they be? - she doesn't know or care.
First Echo:

On an otherwise perfectly ordinary day on the job, Annabel got into an altercation with a kid she was trying to eject from the park. The confrontation ended with her getting headbutted and the boy running off.
Instead of chasing him down, Annabel found herself frozen to the spot as she experienced a massive wave of deja vu. This had happened before, hadn't it? She vaguely remembered being hurt somehow, and being overwhelmed by that same feeling of shock. Then there was that nagging feeling, like someone she'd been supposed to apprehend had got away... And a voice, saying "Annie. Fall."
Weird.
Preincarnation Personality:
Annie is the type of person who has a personality, but likes to take said personality and stomp on it. When she's done stomping she will then dig a hole, bury it in the ground, tidy it all back up and then pretend that it was never there.
She does all this while maintaining the world's most perfect lineface.
Her exterior is cold, uncaring and usually apathetic. Eren remarks that she always seems to be bored by everything and everyone, and this is pretty accurate. It's only to be expected, really, since she's a traitor to the humans and developing any attachments to them can only hurt her cause - like when she spares Armin's life in her guise as the Female-Type Titan. Despite distancing herself from her peers and their concerns, she's not completely incapable of getting close to people or caring about things. She just doesn't want to.
That said, Annie livens up a lot when she gets to show off her hand-to-hand fighting skills. She's still reluctant to actually admit that this is a thing she enjoys - she claims that it's a waste of time; stupid children playing at soldiers - but, as Eren says, she "really sucks at lying." This is probably completely accurate. While Annie is able to maintain the appearance of being an ordinary human throughout training, most of the lies we witness are only lies of omission. When initially confronted about being the Female-Type Titan she pretends to be too scared to go underground with Eren, Mikasa and Armin (as she wouldn't be able to safely transform down there). Her lie is so transparent that even Eren calls her on it, and after that she's merely evasive instead of lying outright.
Her not-so-secret love for showing off her skills ties in with the aloof superiority Annie often projects. She looks down on a lot of people (though not physically. HEIGHT JOKE. BECAUSE SHE'S SHORT. I'm funny), particularly people like Jean early in the story. While he boasts about how he's going to join the military police and jeers at anyone who would ever give their own lives and willingly fight the titans, Annie confirms that she also wants to join the police but that her similarities to Jean don't run any further than that.
Her open contempt for such thinking is reflected in her respect for people who are willing to lay down their lives for their convictions - Eren, Armin and her father being examples of that. Then again, she's strongly invested in her own goals as well and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve them. She commits atrocious acts in her attempts to capture Eren after she learns that he's a titan shifter. Not only does she kill a high volume of people, but in several instances their deaths are more violent and cruel than really necessary. She feels regret for some of the more unsavoury things that she does, though (she's shown apologising to the corpse of one of her fellow recruits after Trost, and admits that she doesn't even know why she spared Armin's life when it would inevitably lead to her identity being discovered) . It seems she's just not very good at emotions. At all. Daddy's "hate the whole world, my tiny beloved child soldier" schtick really did a number on her, geez.
Any differences: While Annabel is as cold as Annie nowadays, in her past she definitely wasn't. She had a normal childhood, formed normal relationships with others, and occasionally made faces that didn't make her look like she wanted to murder everyone in the room. The walls around her were self-built, not put there by someone else, and they're also relatively new. While Annabel has built them well, they'll be fragile if attacked in precisely the right places.
(Yes, I just made an extended metaphor about breaking down walls in an Attack on Titan character's application. You're welcome.)
She doesn't share Annie's conviction with her own ideals, either. Annabel is devoid of any major goal to influence her life since her father died, and essentially goes from day to day just existing. If she did have a goal then she could easily be spurred into violence to achieve it, but not on the same level as Annie. No picking dudes up and spinning them at a high enough velocity to snap their spines for her.
Abilities:
Hand-to-hand combat skills - Annie is super great at beating people up. Her techniques were taught to her by her father, and are especially useful for using an opponent's size and strength against them. (Annabel has some talent for this herself, but absolutely not to the same extent. She has no knowledge of Annie's style, either.)
3DMG training - The equipment of choice for killing titans, the 3D Maneuver Gear is a series of straps located around the body and used to support a set of gas-powered grappling hooks. These allow the wearer to pchoo their way around the air like little Post-Apocalyptic Anime German Spider-Men (I seriously can't believe that's a sentence that I just typed). Also included are a set ofgiant boxcutters blades stored in side-holsters so that they're ready to be whipped out and used to slice into a titan's neck.
Titan Shifter - Annie's skills in her form as the Female-Type Titan are pretty awesome. As well as being much more formidable in her fourteen-metre body, she is one of the speedier titans. She can harden localised areas of her skin to protect herself, too, though she can't keep this up for long periods of time. Basically, when compared to regular-flavour Annie, the Female-Type is harder, better, faster, stronger. (I'm sorry. Honestly.)
Regeneration - An ability all titans/shifters possess, Annie can regenerate wounds in both her forms. It's a slow process that takes a lot of energy, but it's effective enough to regrow entire limbs if needed.
Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Test drive thread!
Roleplay Sample - Network:
(text;)
[ Like many others, Annabel discovers the network by typing her numbers into Google.
She then spends the next couple of hours digging through it so she can get her bearings and avoid looking stupid. Or surprised. Or really any emotion at all whatsover. ]
I'm new. I read the FAQ, so I'm up to speed. I won't waste time with pointless dithering about whether this is some kind of delusion.
I want to know if anyone is organizing any kind of serious resistance against the enemy forces or not. Standing by and waiting to be attacked doesn't count. If so, I'd like more information.
[ There's a small pause. ]
- Ellie.
[ An old nickname from school, not a lie. Not really. ]
